Kids Zone Host

You want to grow up to be a news reporter, show host or even a sports commentator? why not start here. We are looking for teenagers from 12 to 16 to do our monthly Kids Zone updates and news for the WCC community.

"Stepping Up, fun and flexible training"

Housing tenants at the Arlington Apartments and Newtown Park Flats are able to attend free computer courses at the computer hubs. Stepping UP is a joint initiative of the Wellington ICT, the Wellington City Council, 2020 Communications Trust and Microsoft to upskill those in need.

Senaka Settinayake, a housing tenant who is among the first batch of graduates said, “I have lived at Central park for 13 years and this is the best thing that's happened to me.” Next year, Wellington ICT aims to train more than one hundred tenants on how to use the computer and internet.

Future Troubleshooters

Wellington city housing tenants are able to assemble and troubleshoot basic desktop computers thanks to the eRider training of Wellington ICT.
In May, two full day intensive workshops were organised to teach budding computer technicians how to troubleshoot hardware components and software applications.

“We want to up-skill tenants on how to fix their own computers as well as equip them to help others in the housing community,” says Joel, Wellington ICT director. “If tenants know how to troubleshoot computers, then they do not need to pay technicians to have their PCs fixed". A total of 20 tenants from various housing complexes in Wellington attended the workshop. “We will continue to conduct ICT training courses for city housing tenants all throughout the year to increase their knowledge and hopefully these will increase their productivity and help them find good jobs,” says Joel. The eRider training is a joint initiative between the Wellington City Council and the Department of Internal Affairs managed by Wellington ICT, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to bridge the digital divide in Wellington.
