Got a flat tyre or squeaky brakes? Bring it along and our volunteer mechanics will help fix it up. 10am - 2pm. Pack some treats and enjoy the Carrara Park Jazz Picnic, from 12 noon.- 6.30pm This years Carrara Park Jazz Picnic features one of the top Jazz Bands performing in Wellington currently, The Nigel Patterson Trio. Led by Nigel Patterson, one of New Zealand’s finest keyboardists/composers (The Black Seeds, Fly My Pretties) with support from Lucien Johnson (Shogun Orchestra, The Troubles) on tenor saxophone, and Peter Elliot on drums the trio combines expert musicianship with passion and creativity. Inspired by such greats as Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Mal Waldron, McCoy Tyner and many others The NP Trio creates a contemporary, sophisticated and digestible take on the jazz idiom. Performing at 4pm; We are blessed to have a wonderful solo artist performing all the way from Memphis, Tennessee,. 24 Year old Elizabeth Wise born and raised in Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, and spent last 4 years working on music in Memphis. Her own Memphis-based band, which includes blues/jazz legend Dr. Herman Green who accompanied BB King, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis for years, has been a regular band during tourist season on Beale St., played all over Memphis, while her Richmond-based band has toured Virginia. Elizabeth will perform at 2.30pm; Also performing at the Jazz picnic is 6 piece Salsa Band, The Bandits.. These young and up and coming Jazz School trained performers are playing regularly in the Wellington scene and will bring the grass dance floor alive rounding out the afternoon at 5.30pm. Starting the show at 1pm is the debut performance from The Wend, Newtown Locals playing their take on traditional blues. Bookending the performances on the Truck stage are locals the Serendipity Duo (Mike Duffy and Jeremy Desmond) and Megan Wheeler, a British muso travelling New Zealand and combining other travelling musicians in their set. Megan will perform at 3.30pm Serendipity Duo perform at 2pm and again at 5pm Groove 107.7FM Live broadcast Live Broadcast of the day and background vibes for the Bike Fix up and the Jazz Picnic are provided by Groove 107.7FM New Zealand's only Cafe style Jazz Radio Station – independent locally owned & operated. The best Acid Jazz, Lounge, Swing, Funk, Soul, Classic Jazz and Downbeat new grooves from here and abroad played and broadcast live from Carrara Park. A Newtown Festival Event , brought to you by Newtown Residents' Assoc, Cycle Aware Wellington and the Mechanical Tempest, with support from Red Design, WCC, Phil&Teds and Groove FM.
