City Housing wins Open Source Award
28 October 2016
From John McDonald, City Housing Manager
Winners at the New Zealand Open Source Awards: Corrina, Tom, Gary and myself attended the New Zealand Open Source Awards at Te Papa last night and I am delighted to let you all know that City Housing took home the award for Open Source use in Education, Social Services and Youth.
Access and support The team earned this award for the great work they do in providing access and support through the computer Hubs which allow our tenants to access communication tools, employment opportunities and educational resources for free. The team received high praise from the judges and many of the attendees on the night.
Tenants using the Newtown Hub
Three hubsCity Housing has three Computer Hubs, at our Newtown Park, Arlington and Central Park apartment complexes. Gary is also a tenant of City Housing and Tom has been in the past, so they really "get" our tenants as well as being dedicated to providing a great service.
Third finals, second winThis is the third time the Hubs have been a finalist in the awards and the second win. We shared the award with the Soup Kitchen in 2012 (at that time the Hubs were operated by the Wellington ICT Trust), and were a finalist in 2014.
Get in touchI would actively encourage anyone who would like to know more about the Hubs to go and have a chat with the team and hear about the work they do.
Congratulations to all the team who contributed to this achievement!
